Please join Era for a fruitful discussion on the philosophy and meaning of Objects and Artifacts. We’ll share a few readings on the topic beforehand to chew on. This will be the first of our Canessa Conversations, a forum for ideas at the intersection of technology, culture, and philosophy, held in our Jackson Square Studio: a gold rush-era printing press turned art gallery that's been home to printers, journalists, the OG SF Art Institute, and now technologists, over the past 200 years. The purpose of this salon-style conversation is to open the conversation about the topics that matter in this new era. For our first session: what is an object versus an artifact, what cultural significance do they carry, and how do we shape them to hold meaning and purpose in a time when so much comes and goes? How do we differentiate "objects" from "things"? And ultimately — how can the computing form factors of the future become objects and artifacts that help us make sense of the world, provide meaning, and leave us more fulfilled?
