Finding Solarpunk Solutions

Solarpunk is an emerging concept gaining momentum across artistic, academic, professional, and activist communities. It offers a hopeful and psychologically generative response to climate anxiety—one that moves beyond fear-based narratives and toward possibility. At its core, Solarpunk invites us to engage in radical social imagination: to envision and actively design alternative systems and futures that we can begin building today. Often understood as both an antidote and a counterpoint to the dystopian futures popularized by cyberpunk media, Solarpunk centers regeneration, equity, and community resilience. In this talk, Michael Joseph (Head of Campus Sustainability at The Evergreen State College of Olympia WA, Solarpunk Creations , and member of the Solarpunk Society ) will introduce the foundational ideas of Solarpunk and highlight real-world examples of Solarpunk-inspired solutions from the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
