While often used to describe excessive, AI-generated, engagement-optimized media, slop is increasingly becoming a dominant condition of contemporary culture. It shapes how information circulates, how attention is captured, how trust is formed, and how meaning is produced. Epistemologies of Slop is an exhibition exploring how meaning, trust, and culture are produced under conditions of algorithmic excess. Bringing together artists, technologists, designers, researchers, and system-builders, the exhibition investigates how knowledge, belief, taste, value, and cultural legitimacy are constructed within algorithmically mediated realities. The exhibition approaches slop not only as an aesthetic, but as a social, technical, economic, and psychological condition. Some works critique slop. Others embrace it, aestheticize it, weaponize it, surrender to it, or reveal the strange new forms of culture emerging from within it.
